Pakistan remembers Madar-e-Millat Fatima Jinnah on her 53rd death anniversary on July 9, today.
Born on 31 July 1893, Gujarat, British India, Fatima Jinnah was the youngest of her other six siblings and was the sister of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah – the founder of Pakistan.

She received her primary and secondary education from Bandra Convent in Bombay. In 1919, she enrolled into the highly competitive University of Calcutta where she attended the Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College and graduated as a professional dentist.
However, she emerged as one of the most prominent leaders of Pakistan Movement and was one of the most trusted ‘confidant’ of Quaid-e-Azam in the independence movement.
Her political career include her decision to contest in the presidential elections of 1965 against military dictator Ayub Khan.
For her services to the nation, she was awarded with the title “Madar-e-Millat – Mother of the Nation”
Fatima Jinnah passed away in Karachi on 9 July 1967 at the age of 73.
