Princess Diana – the queen of peoples’ hearts, is being remembered on her 23rd death anniversary on August 31st today.
Diana – Princess of Wales is being remembered today on her 23rd death anniversary after her tragic death in a car accident on August 31st 1997 in Paris, France.
Born Diana Frances Spencer, she married Charles Prince of Wales in February 1981 and was given the title of Princess of Wales.
Princess Diana gained worldwide respect, fame and acclaim for her charity and humanitarian work around the globe.
She was a staunch critic of the manufacturing and use of landmines and was the patron of HALO Trust, an organisation that removes debris particularly landmines left behind and unaddressed in conflict zones.
Diana also worked extensively for the people affected by HIV/AIDS and opened Landmark Aids Centre in South London in 1989. She was the first British Royal family member ever to be in physical contact with AIDS patients.
“HIV does not make people dangerous to know. You can shake their hands and give them a hug. Heaven knows they need it,” she was quote saying while shaking hands with an AIDS patient in 1987 in an effort to de-stigmatize such people and counter the taboo that surrounds it.
During her marriage with Prince Charles, Pricess Diana had two children Prince Willian and Prince Harry.
Diana and Prince Charles separated on August 28th 1996, over the latter having extra marital affairs with then Camilla Parker Bowles (now Camilla Duchess of Cornwall).
Lady Diana died in a car accident in Paris, France on 31st August. She was accompanied by her parthner Dodi Fayed – an Egyptian billionaire and film producer, who also died in the accident.
Diana’s funeral was held on September 6th, was televised and was watched by at least 32.10 million people in Britain.
To this day, Princess Diana remains one of the most respected, loved and widely recognized British Royal in the world.
