Several people are said to have been injured in a bomb attack at a World War I (WWI) memorial ceremony in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Wednesday (today).
According to details, a WW I memorial ceremony was being held at a non-Muslim cemetery in Jeddah when it was targeted by an explosive device resulting in several injuries.
The event was organized to mark the 102nd anniversary of the armistice ending the first world war.
As per the statement issued by France’s Foreign Ministry, the WW I memorial ceremony was being attended by several foreign dignitaries including that of France and was targeted by an improvised explosive device (IED).
France has strongly condemned the attack terming it ‘unjustifiable’.
Prior to this, a security guard was injured in knife attack at the French consulate in Jeddah.
France has already issued a warning to its citizens in Saudi Arabia to be on ‘maximum alert’ following the beheading of a French teacher in France accused of showing blasphemous caricatures of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Meanwhile, a Greek official has also confirmed the incident, adding that four people including a Greek citizen have been injured in the attack.
It is pertinent to know that France is facing severe backlash from Muslim countries across the world for its refusal to address the issue of blasphemous caricatures of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
