What is Israel’s ‘Dahiya Doctrine’?

For every conscientious person in the world, Israel is a symbol of oppression, exploitation, lies and deceit. The Zionist state was founded on these very bases and on which it still stands.

Whenever Israeli forces attack the oppressed and unarmed Palestinians, Israel and its patrons and allies unanimously term these atrocities as ‘self-defence’. The truth is that recognizing Palestine as a sovereign state on one hand, as Israel doesn’t even recognize the existence of the Palestinians, and is pursuing to establish ‘Greater Israel’ eventually forcing the Palestinians to migrate under varying pretexts. All of this is being done as part of an elaborate plan.

Currently, Israel is not only bombing Gaza strip, but Palestinians living in Israeli territory are also being attacked by Jewish extremists. This is Israel’s fourth major military operation against innocent Palestinians living in Gaza. For the US, Zionist sympathizers and the Western media Israel’s argument which blames Hamas for these attacks is essentially satisfactory; following which they’re blind to children’s corpses as well as demolished houses. Israel claims that it’s only targeting ‘terrorist installations’ and that the rest is unintentional. What has been termed as ‘collateral damage’ by the Israelis is someone’s infant, mother, husband which in fact are the real targets of the Zionists. Israel contends that never initiates war with the Palestinians, which is nothing but a blatant lie. With nefarious intentions and extensive planning, Israel intentionally provokes Palestinians with its actions, the likes of which we have seen in all the previous wars. This is achieved by various tactics such as by martyring a Palestinian leader, bombing, imposing sanctions on the Palestinians. By evicting Palestinians, occupying their lands, setting up illegal settlements and attacking Muslims’ holy sites, Israel provokes Palestinians to retaliate and then bombs Palestinian settlements in the name of self-defence.

Israel’s actions are not something new as this is what it has been doing since day one. Back when this illegitimate state came into being, even then the Palestinians were persecuted and expelled from their homeland. The Zionists have continued to lie that the Palestinians voluntarily left their homes and villages, but today Israeli historians themselves are acknowledging that Israel carried out a deliberate and skillfully planned ethnic cleansing on Palestinian land and whose aim was to exile Palestinians and relocate, re-settle Jews from all over the world, including Russia, Eastern Europe and Germany, in their abandoned territories. To achieve their objective, the Zionist terrorists attacked Palestinians and forced them in large numbers to flee in fear, while the Israeli army destroyed hundreds of Palestinian villages and towns.

This was a time when the Israeli leadership showcased utmost hypocrisy by shedding crocodile tears while being the oppressor itself. But today, the leaders of the Zionist state are not hypocrites as before, as now they carry out mass murder and laugh at the corpses instead. It’s evident that they’re fully confident that the flagbearers of ‘human rights’ in the United States and the western countries will not stop or oppose them. Furthermore, they’re also quite sure of the fact that no matter what Israel does, the Muslim countries will do nothing other than merely condemn it.

Israel’s barbaric actions, which are often termed as revenge, reaction and the right to defend, are in fact a well-thought-out Israel’s military policy. As per this policy, every single resident of the Gaza Strip is a ‘target’, and the same will be done against Palestinians living in the West Bank and Israel after Gaza is ‘cleansed’ of Palestinians. Responding to a question of whether the attacks on Gaza will intensify? Israeli military spokesman Jonathan Conricus said, “I don’t think our people are interested in a ceasefire.”Israel seeks to crush the Palestinian resistance and leaving their retaliation completely ineffective. This strategy is known as the Dahiya Doctrine. This military strategy, or doctrine is named after ‘Dahieh’ neighbourhood of Beirut, where Hezbollah was headquartered during the 2006 Lebanon War, which was heavily damaged by the IDF. The name itself reflects the nature of Israel’s intentions. The strategy was created by the Israeli Institute of National Security Studies (INSS), which published it in the form of a dissertation titled “Disproportionate Force: Israel’s Concept of Response in Light of the Second Lebanon War.” The doctrine contends that in its conflict with Hamas, the Israeli army must use force in proportion to the enemy’s actions and threat. This strategy involves the complete destruction of civilian infrastructure within the enemy’s territory. Israel’s ongoing onslaught on Gaza is in fact in line with this doctrine, the same as previous attacks. Israeli planes have destroyed a large number of buildings in Gaza, including a media complex. As of now, more than 200 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli offensive, including more than 50 children. All this is being done to intimidate the Palestinians so that they don’t dare to stand up against the Zionist state. Gadi Eisenkot – a senior Israeli general, told Israeli media in 2008 that the Al-Dahiya doctrine is not merely a proposal, but a comprehensive plan that has already been approved. Earlier in 2006, General Dan Halutz, the head of the Israeli army, said that the Israeli army will target civilian infrastructure in Lebanon essentially pushing Lebanon back 20 years. Israel adopted a similar strategy in its attacks on Gaza in 2008-2009, wreaking havoc on the civilian population and killing 1,400 Palestinians.Israel’s barbaric actions, which are often termed as revenge, reaction and the right to defend, are in fact a well-thought-out Israel’s military policy. As per this policy, every single resident of the Gaza Strip is a ‘target’, and the same will be done against Palestinians living in the West Bank and Israel after Gaza is ‘cleansed’ of Palestinians. Responding to a question of whether the attacks on Gaza will intensify? Israeli military spokesman Jonathan Conricus said, “I don’t think our people are interested in a ceasefire.”

Thus, Israel aims to intimidate the people of Gaza and deprive them of all basic necessities of life as part of an elaborate plan, so that Gaza is no longer a habitable zone forcing the Palestinians to migrate in wake of a lack of basic facilities. For how long the brave Palestinians will be able to counter Israel’s strategy without any foreign aid? This perhaps is a question for the Muslim world that we all know the answer to.
