KARACHI: Leaders of Sindh’s ruling party have rejected the possibility of imposing Governor rule in the province.
Opposition in the Sindh assembly on Wednesday demanded that the Governor rule be imposed in the province as the provincial government’s performance in the wake of coronavirus pandemic was unsatisfactory.

Refuting the demand, Sindh’s Minister for Information Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said the people wishing for the implementation of governor’s rule in the province would never get what they desired, adding that he was unable to comprehend why anyone wanted to impose governor’s rule when there was an elected government in the province.
Responding to a question during the press talk, Shah said that the Sindh government had no intention of removing Karachi mayor Wasim Akhtar from his post. “We believe in democracy and we are also concerned about the Islamabad mayor’s suspension. Whoever has the mandate must be allowed to complete his term.”
Earlier, advisor to Chief Minister Sindh, Barrister Murtaza Wahab explained that the imposition of Governor rule was out of question as the 18th amendment rules out exercising any such power without approval of the sitting assembly.
Demand for Governor rule is “unconstitutional”
Reacting to the opposition’s demand, Sindh Law and Environment Adviser Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that the opposition in the Sindh Assembly has once again raised the demand without having an inkling of the Constitution.
“Leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly to better read the Constitution. Naqvi does not even know which constitutional clause covers the imposition of the Governor’s rule in its present form. The clause governing the subject lies in Article 234 of the Constitution and not Article 235”, he said.
