The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan, on Monday, instructed State Bank of Pakistan to provide the record of foreign donations in Dam Fund.
Supreme Court’s five-member bench headed by by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, along with Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Faisal Arab, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Muneeb Akhtar heard the case regarding Dam Fund on Monday.

The bench inquired about the matters pertaining to the Supreme Court Dam Fund which has been established for the construction of Diamer-bhasha and Mohmand Dams. Hearing the case, the court inquired about the spending and utilization of the Dam Fund.

Furthermore, the court instructed State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to provide details regarding foreign donations submitted to the Dam Fund. SBP officials responded that they have written to various embassies in this regard to which CJP Gulzar Ahmed remarked, “Letters won’t work. You will have to talk on phone.”
In addition to it, WAPDA officials were also present at the hearing and informed the court regarding the expected completion of the project and details pertaining to the spending of the Dam Fund.
“The first unit of the dam will become operational in 2024 while its third unit will complete by July 2025. There is no problem with regard to supply of fund for the project,” they noted.
It is to be noted that SC has established Dam Fund which enacts as a transparent and trustworthy platform for both Pakistanis and Pakistani diaspora oversees to contribute towards national development via donations.
