Surgeons at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in Karachi have successfully removed a bullet embedded inside the heart of a 12-year-old boy, saving his life after a high-risk operation.
The young patient, who hails from Balochistan, was brought to the hospital in critical condition after being accidentally shot in the heart.
Upon arrival, pediatric cardiologists performed an echocardiogram, which confirmed that the bullet was lodged directly within the boy’s heart tissue.
A specialized surgical team, pediatric surgeon Dr. Sohail Khan Bangash, alongside Dr. Saad Badr, Dr. Abdul Sattar Soomro, and Professor Aneeq Khawaja, carried out the complex two-hour procedure and safely extracted the bullet.
Following the successful operation, the child was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU), where he remains under close monitoring.
