Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC), on Monday, turned down Sindh government’ request to issue a stay order against Sindh High Court (SHC) verdict in Daniel Pearl Case.
The three-member SC bench, headed by Justice Mushir Alam heard the petitions filed by Daniel Pearl’s parents and Sindh government against SHC April 2 verdict in the case.

During the hearing, the Sindh government revealed that the accused individuals Ahmed Omer Sheikh, Fahad Naseem, Salman Saqib and Sheikh Adil are still in custody the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) whose time limit will end on July 2.
The Sindh government cited ‘terrorism links’ of the accused and contented for the issuance of stay order against SHC verdict which as acquitted the individuals in the case.
Responding to Sindh government’s stance, Justice Yahya Khan Afridi responded and asked, “How can you call the accused terrorists after acquittal.”

The court remarked that it cannot suspend SHC verdict without any substantial evidence and that Sindh government can choose to extend MPO if deemed necessary, further adjourning the case till September.
