Pakistan on Thursday, approached India seeking legal representation for Khulbhushan Jadhav.
According to Aisha Farooqu – spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has stated that Pakistan has once again, reached out to Indian government seeking legal representation for their spy Khulbhushan Jadhav.
Addressing a press-briefing in Islamabad on Thursday (today), Aisha Fqrooui said that the decision to approach Indian government on the issue of Khulbhushan Jadhav has been made in the light of Islamabad High Court (IHC) verdict.
Prior to this, federal government had filed a petition in IHC seeking guidelines for the provision of legal representation for Khulbhushan Jadhav.
The court in its verdict on August 3, directed the federal government to reach out to Indian government once again on the issue of legal counsel for Mr Jadhav.
“India and Kulbhushan Jadhav should once again be extended an offer to appoint a legal representative,” said Justice Athar Minallah.

Earlier, Pakistan had provided three consular access to Indian government for Khulbhushan Jadhav in July last month under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations (VCCR) 1963, whereas the first consular access was provided on 2 September 2019 followed by the second one on July 16 2020.
Pakistan also passed ‘The International Court of Justice (Review and Reconsideration) Ordinance, 2020’ pertaining to the legal formalities regarding Indian spy Khulbhushan Jadhav’s trial.
It is to be noted that Khulbhushan Jadhav was offered to file a petition against his sentence on June 17, along with the provision of legal representation. However, he refused to file the review petition and intends to pursue the ‘mercy petition’ proceedings he had already filed earlier.
