Veteran Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has been stopped from leaving the country amid investigations into allegations of corruption.
According to Bangladesh media outlets, a court in Dhaka imposed a travel ban on 14 individuals, including former lawmaker and cricketer Shakib Al Hasan.
The court issued the order on a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
In its petition, the ACC maintained that it was investigating the individuals over allegations of large-scale corruption.
Apart from Shakib Al Hasan, Deputy Registrar of the Department of Cooperatives Abul Khair, his wife Kazi Sadia Hassan, Abul Kalam Matbar, Kanoka Afroz, Mohammad Bashar, Sajed Matbar, Aleya Begum, Kazi Fuad Hassan, Kazi Farid Hassan, Shirin Akhter, Javed A Matin, Zahed Kamal, Humayun Kabir and Tanvir Nizam are facing charges of embezzlement.
According to a spokesperson for the ACC, the petition was filed at the Dhaka Court after they received credible intelligence that the accused might attempt to flee the country to evade investigation.
