Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja fell in love while she was in school, and he had finished college. Sunita’s parents did not approve of this relationship at first as it was starting to affect other aspects of her life. In a new interview, Sunita recalled how her mother beat her up when she failed in 8th standard and lied about it at her home. She shared that she wasn’t a bright student but her mother wanted her to excel in studies.
Talking to Galatta India, Sunita shared, “I was in 8th standard and I failed the class. I didn’t tell my mother about it, and by then, I was already in a relationship with Govinda. I lied to my mother saying that I have passed. So my mom, she heated up a tawa (pan) and she burnt me here (points at her cheek bone), and she questioned me about my lies. My mom was very strict. She pushed me to study but I hated it. I would just fall asleep whenever I opened my books.”
Sunita laughed and shared another anecdote about her childhood where she harmed her older sister. “My older sister, once she was trying to make me study, and I was hating it. So I took a blade and cut her thigh with it,” she said. Sunita shared that while she did not enjoy formal education, she enjoyed maths because she always “loved money.”
