Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Sirajul Haq on Wednesday said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) should accept the mandate of his party in Karachi local bodies elections.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, he urged PPP to practice being a democratic party as it preaches and accept JI’s mandate.
Haq advised PPP to accept the reality instead tying to influence results of the elections, emphasizing the need of stability for Karachi’s peace.
He vowed that Karachi’s next mayor will be from JI but said that they were ready to speak with all stakeholders.
To a question, Haq said that JI had not yet decided of an alliance with either PTI or PPP.
He lauded efforts of JI Karachi chief and party’s mayoral candidate Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman and his team for outstanding performance in Karachi LG polls.
Sindh CM phones Hafiz Naeem
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah made telephonic contact with JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem Rehman and assured him of resolving their legitimate concerns over election results.
CM asked JI to approach the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) over concerns about delay in results.
Murad assured of playing his due role in resolving the issues of JI that fell in purview of Sindh government.
JI ultimatum ends
Earlier, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman had given 3pm ultimatum to the ECP to fix results of local bodies elections of Karachi.
It is pertinent to mention that JI had alleged PPP-led Sindh government for alleged rigging in the results and claimed that it emerged as the single largest majority party in the Karachi elections.
On Tuesday, the workers of Jamaat-e-Isalmi also held demonstrations outside the press clubs of Buner, Rajan Pur, Nowshera, Muzzfargarh, Khan Pur, Badin, Larkana, Okara, Multan, Kot Addu, Lahore, Rahim Yar Khan, Jacob Abad, Sahiwal and Lower Dir.
