The Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC) expressed grave concern over incident of mob attacking on Wednesday on Koohi Goth Charity hospital in Bin Qasim Town, beating the staff and damaging ambulances and machinery. While strongly condemning such type of vandalism and violent act, SHCC has also urged the public to contact appropriate forum of Sindh Healthcare Commission for redressal of any patients’ grievances. SHCC is the only legal forum for resolution of complaints related to all healthcare establishments (hospitals/clinics). Moreover, SHCC has also mandate to protect the rights of doctors and medical community.
Dr. Ahson Qavi Siddiqi, CEO SHCC said that public should not be allowed to take law into their hands in any such cases. There is a forum established under the Sindh Healthcare Commission Act, 2013 approved by the Sindh Assembly, where all such complaints by patients or their relatives are dealt with technically. He stressed that public cannot decide by itself and attack on any healthcare providers or establishment and do hooliganism in the hospital premises. He further said that we vehemently condemn this heinous act and urgently call for protection of health facilities and medical staff. He added that “such incidents leave the medical community in a state of shock and distress”. Dr Siddiqi said sanctity of health care establishments including of healthcare workers, medical supplies, ambulances, etc. must be respected and protected. Regarding the social work of the concerned hospitals, he said that this is the second hospital in the world where treatment of fistula is being provided to women free of cost. If such mob attacks prevailed, who would provide free of cost services to the people particularly belonging to the poor strata of the society.
