ART
What is the first thing that popped in your mind?
Sketching, music, dance, painting or was it yourself?
Certainly, anything but yourself.
Art is a very confusing area. Everyone has their own definition. However, one definition that took my attention was by Hegel. He defined art as, sensuous expression or manifestation of free spirit in a medium that has been deliberately molded or worked by human being into the expression of freedom.
If we move forward with this definition, aren’t we a work of art ourselves? We molded and worked on the soul and body to become what we are today. Isn’t it truly magical? You, being a masterpiece of yourself!!!
Every person controls the tiniest hair on their body to thinking, feeling, sensation and intuitions. Every person makes a unique combination of these areas to create a distinct piece of art. Yet, we fail to appreciate this exquisite piece of work.
Wonder why?
Maybe because we all heard John Keating’s dialog, “Medicine, law, business engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love these are what we stay alive for” but never really understood it.
Indulging in worldly wealth and professions has made us lose ourselves to the point where we can’t even interpret art and ourselves. We are all running to understand the author instead of understanding our interpretations.
Interpretation is the real mirror. Only understanding our interpretations can help us understand ourselves, the masterpiece made by us. Just like art, you need to sit back and watch it for a while. Allow the brain and heart to take over while you sit back and relax. Your vibes and your uniqueness will creep in themselves.
That’s when you will be able to look at the world from your eyes and answer the question: WHAT IS ART?
It’s me. It’s you. It’s us.
Therefore, at the end of the day don’t forget to admire yourself.
As, art is all about appreciation by not anyone but itself.
