National Disaster and Management Authority (NDMA) and Frontier Works Organization (FWO) have begun their clean up operations in Karachi on Monday (today).
According to details, FWO teams along with Pakistan Army personnel with the oversight of NDMA, have begun their clean up campaign in the rain-hit metropolitan city of Karachi.

As per the latest reports, the first phase of clean up operations will see the clearing of drainage and sewage systems in North Nazimabad area as FWO personnel with 50 dump trucks and excavation equipment arrived at Gujar Nala as it overflowed and drowned the adjacent localities during recent rain spell in Karachi.
The development comes as earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan directed Pakistan Army and NDMA to assist civilian administration in cleaning up the city and its overwhelmed drainage and sewage system.

Prior to this Chairman NDMA Lt Gen Muhammad Afzal on Sunday, stated that NDMA and Pakistan Army teams will launch their initiative to clean the choked drainage and sewage system of the metropolis so that the city once again, is not subjected to urban flooding prospects and circumstances as in the recent days.
The cleaning campaign will only act as a short-term alternative to the issue and is not a permanent solution to the city’s flooding woes, he added.
It is pertinent to know that Karachi received torrential rains in the last week of June resulting in urban flooding in various areas of the metropolis with cars being drowned and rain water entering in houses in various localities of the city as drainage systems overflowed due to ineffective maintenance.
