Christchurch attack inquire report has unearthed a mind boggling ‘Indian connection’ to the terrorist incident that resulted in 51 Muslim worshipers being killed.
The inquiry report released by New Zealand’s ‘Royal Commission of Inquiry into the terrorist attack on Christchurch’, has revealed that Brenton Tarrant – right wing terrorist that executed the attacks, had spent around three months in India before traveling to New Zealand.
The 792-page report has revealed that the Australian-born far right extremist had travelled extensively between April 15th 2014 and August 17th 2017.
The report mentions that Brenton Tarrant’s longest visit during this time was in India. He had visited the country from November 21st 2015 to February 18th 2016.
The fact that Tarrant visited 57 countries and his longest stay was in India has raised serious concerns of his activities, interactions in the country that may have contributed to the 2019 Christchurch shootings.
It is to be noted that Brenton Tarrant was sentenced to life imprisonment by a New Zealand court back in August this year for killing 51 Muslim worshipers in 2019 attack.
According to the court verdict, Brenton Tarrant’s life imprisonment sentence is in fact without parole. The sentence was announced after a four-day hearing during which several of the victims’ family members recorded their statements in court and confronted the 30-year old terrorist for his crimes and actions.
Christchurch Mosque shootings
Back in March 15th 2019 last year, Brenton Tarrant – a 30 year old Australian national white supremacist terrorist, armed with two semi-automatic rifles, two shotguns and one lever-action rifle and opened fire on Muslim worshippers in two Christchurch mosques.
Tarrant filmed the attack and streamed it online on Facebook Live.
At first he targeted Muslims worshipers at Al Noor Mosque, and then proceeded to Linwood Mosque to continue his rampage.
The attacks killed 51 Muslim worshipers and injured another 40 people.
The shootings shocked the world and the people of New Zealand who led by their Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern came together to express their solidarity and grief for the victims’ families and Muslim community in the country in-general.
New Zealand since then, has reformed its gun laws putting a ban on military style semi-automatic weapons and other parts.
