Prime Minister Imran Khan greeted Emomali Rahmon – President of Tajikistan who landed in Islamabad on his two-day visit to Pakistan on Wednesday (today). The two leaders agreed on strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation between the two countries.
According to Prime Minister’s Office, PM Imran Khan received the Tajik President upon his arrival at PM House Islamabad. The visiting dignitary was also presented with a guard of honour upon his arrival.

The two leaders then held one on one meeting followed by delegation level talks as the two countries agreed upon increasing trade and cooperation which will be mutually beneficial for both nations.
PM Imran Khan, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon also held joint press-conference which was followed by signing of multiple Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) between Pakistan and Tajikistan in various fields, sectors.

Bilateral Agreements Signed Between Pakistan and Tajikistan

The two sides signed various agreements and MoUs including;
- Academic Cooperation Agreement between Tajik Technical University named after academician M.S Osimi and Indus University of Pakistan.
- Agreement on Cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Tajikistan and Chamber of Commerce and Industry Quetta Balochistan.
- Agreement on Cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Pakistan.
- Memorandum of Understanding between Agency for State Financial Control and Struggle against Corruption of the Republic of Tajikistan and National Accountability Bureau of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
- Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of Islamic Republic of Pakistan for Cooperation in the Field of Prevention and Liquidation of Emergency Situations.
- Agreement between the Government of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in the field of Art and Culture.
- Memorandum of Understanding between Tajik Institute of Languages, Dushanbe Tajikistan and National University of Modern Languages (NUML) Pakistan.
- Memorandum of Understanding between Technological University of Tajikistan and COMSATS University Islamabad.
- Agreement on International Road Transport.
- Cooperation Programme between Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Tajikistan.
- Joint Declaration on Next Steps in Building Strategic Partnership for Regional Solidarity and Integration.
FM Qureshi Meets Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon
Earlier in the day, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi also met with visiting Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and expressed gratitude to the visiting dignitary for co-hosting Heart of Asia Istanbul Process conference.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Pakistan and Tajikistan enjoy close brotherly relations underpinned by commonalty of faith, shared history and cultural affinities. These ties are characterized by mutual respect, shared perceptions and a common desire to promote peace, stability and development in the region.
Tajikistan is important within the context of Pakistan’s vision for closer ties and enhanced cooperation with Central Asia. The vision emphasizes forging deeper trade, investment, energy, security, and people-to-people links.
