Torkham border crossing with Afghanistan has been closed over COVID-19 concerns, confirmed Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Tuesday (today).
Federal Interior Minister – Sheikh Rashid Ahmed took to social media to announce that Torkham border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been closed down over COVID-19 concerns and new guidelines issued by National Command and Operations Center (NCOC).
“On the advice of the NCOC all types of immigration departure and arrival will be close from today at Torkham Border till the fresh Guidelines of NCOC, tweeted the Interior Minister.
The development comes as NCOC had warned of strict lockdown and COVID-19 restrictions in wake of rise in coronavirus cases.
Pakistan’s COVID-19 positivity rate stood at 2.97% on Monday a day earlier making it the highest positivity rate since June 16th last month.
The country reported 830 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours with a positivity rate of 2.22%; another 25 deaths were reported during this time period.
Pakistan’s total COVID-19 tally stands at 964,490 cases with 22,425 deaths so far. A total of 908,648 people have successfully recovered from the novel virus, whereas 1,968 are still in critical condition.
