The judicial commission inquiring into the murder case of a young businessman of Karachi, Mir Raza Ali, has suspended its proceedings after the Advocate General (AG) Sindh objected to a question asked by the deceased’s family lawyer Jibran Nasir.
Justice Omar Sial, who is heading the commission, said the Advocate General was interfering in the proceedings, noting that Jibran Nasir was representing the victim’s family and was entitled to ask questions.
“The family wants to ask some questions. What is your problem with that?” Justice Sial said.
The AG responded that his role was not to interfere but to assist the commission. He argued that questions should be put by the commission rather than by lawyers.
The commission, however, termed the AG’s objection an intervention in its proceedings and summoned Home Minister Sind, Zia Lanjar.
Police officer Summaiya Syed Tariq also recorded her statement before the commission.
Dr Syed said that after speaking to the Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Karachi, Azad Khan, she was told that the case appeared to be a straightforward suicide.
