The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday decided to constitute a larger bench to hear a petition challenging the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned protest and long march in Islamabad on September 27.
IHC Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar heard the petition filed by citizen Waqas Ahmed.
The petitioner has made the inspectors general of police (IGPs) of all four provinces, Islamabad Police and Motorway Police, as well as other relevant government authorities, respondents in the case.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel said he was a trader doing business in Islamabad and would be directly affected by the planned protest.
He said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi had announced the protest.
“We are affected because there is a plan to bring this protest to Islamabad,” the counsel submitted.
The counsel also expressed concerns over possible security risks, asking whether there was a plan to attack Adiala Jail as had allegedly happened during the May 9 incidents at military installations.
