The Sindh Local Government Amendment Bill 2026 has been on the cards and expected to be tabled in the assembly.
The new bill is expected to introduce key amendments with regard to the tenure of mayors, chairmen and local councils.
The bill suggests that a letter addressing the election commission will be mandatory 120 days prior to the end of the tenure of the council.
The former mayor or chairman will continue to perform duty on completion of office term until the new mayor or chairman being elected.
The former mayor or chairman could use the council’s powers.
