Cellular services are to be suspended in various cities in Sindh as a security precaution pertaining to 9th and 10th Muharram.

As per the details Karachi’s District Central and District South will be subjected to a complete network shutdown, meanwhile District East will face targeted suspension of cellular services around Muharram processions’ routes such as Nishtar Park, Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road, Father Jammes Road, MA Jinnah Road till Capri cinema and Preedy Street up to Parking Plaza Saddar.

Furthermore, network services will also be suspended in various other districts of Sindh including Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Khairpur, Tando Muhammad Khan, Dadu and Jacobabad.

Meanwhile responding to network and internet connectivity issues in Karachi, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has cited precautionary security measures taken by government and law enforcement agencies (LEAs)  as the primary reason for cellular network availability issue in the city.

In addition to it, PTA also acknowledged that the city’s cellular network has been severely affected by heavy rains and recent urban flooding as several mobile towers are damaged and are still inundated in rain water.

The situation has been further compounded with underground internet and telecommunications lines being damaged, along with prolonged power outages in the metropolitan city which have also affected telecommunications tower operations.
